The history of Balbiano dates back to 1941, when its founder, Melchiorre Balbiano, decided to dedicate his life and work to the Freisa grape variety. For over eighty years, the love for the wines of the Turin hills has been passed down from father to son: a dynasty committed to the continuous pursuit of quality, the preservation of traditions, and the promotion of the unique grape varieties of this region.
The connection to these lands led Franco and Luca Balbiano to courageously take on the challenge of replanting the royal vineyard of Villa della Regina in Turin, which had been abandoned after World War II, along with the royal residence it housed. The revival of this 17th-century jewel allowed the Balbiano family to produce, since 2009, a unique wine from one of the rarest urban vineyards in the world. Since its first vintage, Compagnia Balbiano has been part of the Masters of Taste selection: a prestigious recognition sponsored by Slow Food and the Turin Chamber of Commerce, which rewards the finest excellence in the province of Turin.
Today, Balbiano wines are appreciated worldwide and consistently awarded in the most important Italian wine guides.
