Nearly half of the Barbialla estate, around 760 hectares, is made up of woodland, mainly oak and cork oak trees. The property is also an important local wildlife reserve, home to a wide variety of animals, thanks to the special attention paid to the environment by the estate’s owner. Rich and flavorful extra virgin olive oil is also produced from the estate’s 5 hectares of olive groves. The fields are planted with wheat, corn, soybeans, and rapeseed, and cattle farming, a long-standing tradition at Barbialla, continues to this day. Only 5.5 hectares are dedicated to vineyards for the production of two wines: a barrel-fermented Chardonnay and a red blend (rosso). The winemaking at the Castello is entrusted to Andrea Paoletti, a renowned oenologist from the region.
