Bargylus
The Domaine de Bargylus is a vineyard located in Syria, on the slopes of Mount Bargylus, an ancient wine-growing region dating back to pre-Islamic times. It is the only private vineyard in the country. Founded in 2003 by the Saadé family, originally from Latakia, the first vintage was produced in 2006. The Saadé family, well-established in trade and industry, expanded into viticulture with this venture, now led by Johnny Saadé and his sons Karim and Sandro, in collaboration with consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt. Despite the war in Syria, the family manages the estate remotely. The estate is also the owner of Château Marsyas in Lebanon. The soils at Domaine de Bargylus, rich in limestone, flint, and clay, are cultivated at an altitude of 900 meters, with a gentle slope. The grape varieties used include Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. Domaine de Bargylus has been hailed by critics as one of the best wines in the Eastern Mediterranean.
