Founded in 1933 by Luigi Sgarzi in Castel San Pietro Terme, near Bologna, Cantine Sgarzi Luigi is a family-run winery that has upheld a winemaking tradition for four generations. Today, the estate is managed by Stefano Sgarzi, with the support of his wife Nadia and their children Luigi Leonardo, Anna, and Francesca. The winery combines traditional expertise with innovation to produce high-quality wines, primarily destined for export to over 80 countries.
The estate covers more than 150 hectares in Emilia-Romagna, 40 hectares in Abruzzo (fully certified organic), and 10 hectares in Puglia. The modern winery, built in 2011 following principles of sustainable architecture, is equipped with photovoltaic panels that supply 90% of the company’s energy needs. An in-house laboratory ensures consistent wine quality through chemical analyses and technical tastings.
Cantine Sgarzi Luigi offers a wide range of IGT, DOC, and DOCG wines, featuring iconic grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Pignoletto, Montepulciano, and Primitivo. The company is also a pioneer in the production of canned wines and alcohol-free wine-based beverages, embracing emerging consumer trends.
Committed to sustainability, the winery holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BRC, and IFS certifications, and offers organic, vegan, and sulfite-free products. Cantine Sgarzi Luigi thus embodies the balance between tradition, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
