La Dama

La Dama : the elegance of Valpolicella

The story begins with a deep love for the land, vineyards, and winemaking. After studying agriculture, Gabriele Delcanale dreamed of cultivating his own land. Encouraged by his father-in-law Giampietro, he purchased 16 hectares where olive trees and wild woods grew, of which 10 would be used for vineyards, near the municipality of Verona, in the beautiful region of Veneto, Italy. Thus, in 2006, Gabriele and his wife Miriam began their journey as producers.

The La Dama vineyard is located in the heart of the historic Valpolicella appellation (hence the “classico” designation) and stretches from the municipality of Negrar, where their winery is located, to Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella. The vineyards are mostly cultivated in pergola and espalier systems and are planted on plots with varied soils and altitudes, producing the indigenous grape varieties of the region, such as Rondinella, Corvina, Reccioto, Corvinone, and Molinara.

Gabriele and Miriam are involved in every step of their wine production, from vine pruning to bottling. Since 2010, the couple has stopped using synthetic products, and since 2015, the entire vineyard has been certified organic. For them, winemaking starts directly in the vineyards, and they believe that a quality wine can only result from a plant treated with love and respect.

Their reputation is international, and the estate has been awarded the gold medal two years in a row at the Millésime Bio Awards for their Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2015 and Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2016.

The wines of La Dama are authentic, beautifully reflecting the traditions of the region while maintaining their own unique style, characterized by finesse and elegance.

Alongside La Dama, the couple has created a second range of wines: Tre Dame. 3 dames for 3 wines. The project was born as a tribute to the female protagonists of the La Dama winery: Miriam, his wife, Chiara, his mother, and Laura, his mother-in-law. Through their personalities, the three of them reflect the characteristics of the wines dedicated to them.

The three cuvées are made in the same cellar, using grapes grown in the same vineyard as La Dama. This line combines the desire to respect and perpetuate the traditions that have made the greatness of Valpolicella, as well as their strong desire for experimentation. A range to discover soon!
