La Lupinella

La Lupinella : Hands in the clay

The La Lupinella estate was founded in 1977 by Vittoriano Bitossi. As an heir to the Guido Bitossi company, which has been involved in the ceramic transformation of the clay soils of Tuscany since the 16th century, he settled in the municipality of Vinci with the utmost respect and knowledge of these lands.

Thus, he revived viticulture in the hills of Montespertoli, where vines and olive trees have grown since prehistoric times (7th century BCE). With the aim of valorizing this lesser-known and wild terroir, yet brimming with potential, he shifted the focus of the land solely to grape cultivation.

Until the late 1990s, production remained limited, and the wines produced were intended for family consumption only. The idea of a more commercial wine project emerged within the Bitossi family, leading them to undertake a profound renewal of the vine rows and the cellar.

Plot by plot, La Lupinella’s project takes shape. They decide to carry out precise zoning work to replant the varieties best suited to their respective terroirs.

Today, the entire vineyard and its plots are treated with the utmost respect for the environment; the estate is also in the process of converting to certified organic agriculture. But for the Bitossi family, organic farming is much more than just avoiding synthetic products; it is about being stewards of biodiversity: constant presence in the vineyards, use of techniques and traditions aimed at defending local biodiversity, entirely manual harvesting, fermentations with indigenous yeasts, planting of plants compatible with the vines, etc.

It is with this delicate attention to raw materials that La Lupinella bottles Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Trebbiano, whose Tuscan clay soils impart structure and power to the wines, transporting their consumers to the heart of Tuscany.
