Manfred Audard and Laura Duclos founded Maison Odart & Cie with the goal of selecting grape varieties and wines from around the world, blending them, and bottling them in their facilities in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield to offer the Quebec market an alternative, high-quality wine selection. Local bottling is one solution to reduce the environmental impact of wine consumption. This approach has already been widely adopted in Germany, where 66% of imported wine comes in bulk, and in the UK (44%). Canada is also beginning to embrace it (28%), with Quebec even leading the country (38%). For Manfred Audard and Laura Duclos, it’s simply an environmental logic, considering that 2.6 containers are required to transport 24,000 liters of bottled wine, compared to just one for the same volume in bulk. Carefully selected from their strong and diverse network of winemakers around the world, Maison Odart & Cie wines will travel in tanks before being stabilized, quality-checked, and bottled in lightweight glass bottles.
