Michelini i Mufatto, from Argentina to Spain

The Bierzo is a wine region located approximately 400 km northwest of Madrid, in the province of Castile & Leon, Spain.

Nestled in the mountains, vineyard altitudes range from 400 to 1000 meters. The temperature variations are extreme, contributing to the unique freshness of the wines from this region. The wine styles here are distinctly influenced by the diversity of soils and altitudes.

It is from this beautiful region that the couple Gerardo Michelini & Andrea Mufatto, originally from Argentina and already owners of their vineyard in Mendoza, fell in love with after several trips to Spanish soil.

In 2015, they decided to follow their hearts and embark, with their son Manu, on a small wine production venture highlighting somewhat forgotten parcels such as Valdecañada and Ozuela, where the bush-trained vines, planted on slate and limestone-rich soils, are over 80 years old, allowing them to bottle a variety of grape varieties: Mencia, Godello, Palomino, Merenzao, Brancellao, Garnacha Tintorera, and Dona Blanca.

All of their vineyards are managed under the concept of biodynamics. In the winery, their cuvées are all fermented in clay amphorae, using indigenous yeasts, and then aged in Burgundian barrels.

Their wines have quickly captivated enthusiasts and critics worldwide and are sourced from extremely limited lots that express the traditional essence of the region.

The Michelini i Mufatto family has partnered with Javier Gonzalez, a native of Bierzo, to also produce a range of collaboration wines: Michelini i Mufatto i Gonzalez. Together, they craft several cuvées, including Mundo Zeppeling and Capitan Beto, single-varietal wines that showcase the richness of their terroir.
