Rosewood’s journey began nearly 90 years ago, when R.W. Roman, a passionate beekeeper from western Ukraine, dreamed of crafting mead. After immigrating to Canada, he continued beekeeping with his son Eugene, but faced challenges in securing a license for a meadery. Inspired by his father’s perseverance, Eugene promised to one day fulfill that dream.
Years later, during their honeymoon in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Eugene and Renata fell in love with the region and envisioned Rosewood as both a meadery and winery. After two decades of planning, they purchased a property in Beamsville, prepared the vineyard in 2003, built the winery in 2005, and relocated the bees. Rosewood opened its doors in May 2008, showcasing its first portfolio from the 2006 vintage. Since then, the Roman family has continued to innovate and pursue their passion.
