Titan of Douro

Titan du Douro : Luís Leocádio’s return to roots

The story begins in 2016 when Luís Leocádio discovers the old vines he had been searching for. Located in the foothills of Serra do Reboredo, in Paredes da Beira, the highest point of the Douro Valley and one of the most authentic and unexplored terroirs in the region, the vineyards benefit from altitudes of up to 1000 meters and sandy granitic soils dotted with veins of quartz. Situated on the steep slopes of the Távora River, the vines of indigenous red and white grape varieties have thrived here for over 100 years, enjoying an exceptional view of one of the most beautiful wine valleys in the world.

Luís Leocádio and his wife Vanessa Santos thus create, from this fabulous terroir, the Titan du Douro estate. Both born and raised in the Douro, they return to their roots after several years abroad studying and gaining experience. The name of the estate was inspired by their old and faithful friend Titan, the magnificent Argentine Mastiff that can be admired on the labels of their wines.

The result is authentic wines, imbued with the character and warmth of the region, but also with exceptional freshness brought by the climate of the winding Távora River and its cliffs. The work in the vineyards focuses on the balance of the ecosystem, setting aside synthetic products and any type of mechanization, and ensuring the continuity of the terroir and the surrounding biodiversity. In the cellar, all wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and vinified naturally. Their commitment is to showcase the best that the vineyard has to offer, respecting its history, traditions, and the people behind the vine and the glass.

Luís Leocádio has gained popularity and recognition in recent years. Becoming a true star in Portugal, his name is increasingly resonating in the wine world. In 2018, he was awarded the title of best winemaker of the year by Revista de Vinhos and collaborates masterfully with several vineyards all over the country, including Menino do Coro in Vinho Verde and Quinta da Biaia in Beira Interior.
