Vecchia Cantina

Founded in 1937 on the initiative of fourteen pioneering producers, Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano began its productive history in 1940 with its first bottling. After overcoming the difficult times of World War II, the cooperative played a role as a growth lever for the entire territory. This role is still evident today. Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano cooperative has about 400 member farms covering a total vineyard area of about 1000 hectares, which extends over the provinces of Siena and Arezzo in Tuscany and Perugia in Umbria, with vineyards located at an altitude ranging from 250 to 550 meters.

The emblem of the cooperative is a winged lion standing, born from the union of the lion and the ancient mythological symbol of the griffin standing. The first evokes the Florentine lordship, which deeply influenced the life of Montepulciano in the 15th and 16th centuries, both from a political and administrative point of view, as well as from an architectural and urbanistic perspective. The second recalls the long history of the city of Montepulciano since its Etruscan origins.
