Located on Pelee Island, the southernmost point of Canada, Pelee Island Winery benefits from a unique microclimate, comparable to that of Bordeaux, thanks to the moderating influence of Lake Erie. With over 700 acres of vineyards, it is the largest privately owned estate winery in the country. The island’s winemaking history dates back to 1854, making it a historic cradle of Canadian viticulture.

The estate primarily cultivates vinifera grape varieties — such as Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc — with a strong commitment to sustainable viticulture, certified by the Sustainable Winemaking Ontario program. Pesticide use is limited, and green cover crops, such as sorghum, are grown directly on the island to naturally enrich the soil.

Winemaking takes place in the nearby mainland town of Kingsville, while the island’s Pavilion welcomes visitors during the summer season for tastings, guided tours, and outdoor events. Pelee Island Winery offers a wide range of VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) wines, many of which have earned international recognition — a reflection of the estate’s balance between tradition, innovation, and respect for the land.
