Vignoble Réveille : the call of the wild
The Réveille Vineyard was founded by France Crispeels. Originally from Belgium, she fell in love with Cassagnes, a village in the Upper Agly Valley in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the south of France. Captivated by the untouched nature, she settled there in 2006 with the goal of producing fresh wines from the South. Starting with organic farming and a great passion for viticulture, she acquired old Carignan and Grenache vines on gneiss soils facing the Corbières, and produced the first two cuvées of the vineyard that same year.
A search for identity began through the various terroirs and exposures offered by Roussillon. Over the years, France acquired new vineyards, always in chosen altitude climates, to produce a range of wines that represent the variety of grape varieties offered by the region.
Organic since 2009, her natural approach to winemaking brings a frank and sincere style to her cuvées, endowed with real freshness. They testify to the diversity of the soils of this Mediterranean terroir, consisting of gneiss and granite, and the extreme climate conditions: low rainfall, high temperatures, and the Tramontane (a strong and cold wind blowing along the foothills of the Pyrenees).
This environment requires appropriate interventions and low yields, resulting in a very limited production of bottles.
Attention, vineyard work primarily by hand, and the practice of biodynamics bring more life into the soils, relaxation in phenolic ripeness, and more sensitive balances in the wines. The work in the cellar starts with healthy and flavorful grapes, on which gentle vinification is practiced, adapted to each cuvée and without additives.
For France Crispeels, being a winemaker is a life in which she feels committed and responsible. The annual cycle of the vine is both fast and engaging, requiring her to make choices that make sense and that inscribe her work in the future. These choices force her to learn from nature, from humans, and to continuously question herself.
The Réveille Vineyard currently covers about 11 hectares of vineyards, allowing for the production of Syrah, Grenache gris and noir, Carignan, Marsanne, and Macabeu.
Each year, new cuvées emerge for their originality in single varietals (produced in IGP) and blends (generally produced in AOP). A small production is also made in Vin de France to create original and unique cuvées, focused on the vintage effect.
